CHULA VISTA CHRISTMAS PARADES. Chula Vista began decorating Third Avenue with Christmas ornaments and lights in 1939. During World War II, Santa cruised the main drag in a jeep. In 1964, he rode an elephant down Broadway. The Starlight Yule Parade started in 1965 and lasted through 2011. Its stated purpose was for families to see their own kids in a hometown parade. CHULA VISTA STARLIGHT PARADE. After two years without a holiday parade, the Third Avenue Village Association of Chula Vista revived the Starlight Parade in 2014. The county’s largest nighttime parade is held in conjunction with TAVA’s Holiday in the Village festival. The mayor lit the Christmas tree in nearby Memorial Park, and kids played in the snow on SDG&E’s “Frosty Hill.” (Courtesy of Steve Wood, Star-News.)
